Version 0.0.4 Patch Notes

Jump Shot version 0.0.4 is attached below. Lots of cool new stuff in this release:

  • New prototype level (see below)
  • Dash can now be cancelled if the dash button is pressed again
  • Fixed bug: Dash direction was incorrect when landing, turning, and dashing again
  • Fixed bug: Ground pound near platform edge sticks player
  • Updated player and hazard colliders to be more forgiving
  • Checkpoints now reset any previously set checkpoint
  • Double Jump, Wall Kick, and Dash are unlocked after finding corresponding pickup
  • Removed custom mouse cursor as it was imprecise

The new prototype level is the first time I've done an 'on paper' platformer design before implementing the level in-editor. Originally the design started with a single room and branched from there, but after deciding to limit your movment at the start by making double jump, dash, and wall kick all power ups, it helped focused the path and progression. For example, you can't progress by going left without wall kick, which is given to you after you navigate the obstacles in the right side path. This is just a first attempt and only focuses on simple movement challenges, but I think it's a good start.

This is the original plan for this level based on the restrictions: start with only jump, jump = 2 blocks, dash = 4 blocks, and wall kick = 3 blocks. Notice the path leading to the left is impossible to continue without wall kick.

And an in-progress editor version without collectibles or power ups. Some of the blocks and spaces were adjusted after being put into the game to make navigation easier (not changed in this screen). Also, some challenges intended for certain moves can be completed without the use of that move. For example, the spikes in the upper left horizontal hallway intended the player to use dash but can be completed with a long double jump. However, the vertical leap that follows that can only be reached by dashing.
